Mossmulloch Wind Farm Planning Application Submitted
Force 9 Energy, alongside its development partner Vestas Development A/S, has submitted a planning application to South Lanarkshire Council for Mossmulloch Wind Farm. The proposed five turbines would be approximately 7km South West of Strathaven. The accompanying Environmental Impact Assessment Report illustrates how the project has been designed to reduce environmental effects in an area which is considered suitable for tall wind turbines in South Lanarkshire Council’s landscape guidance.
If approved, the project will include five wind turbines up to 200m to blade tip, with a total generating capacity of up to 36MW, enough to power over 32,000 homes. A significant bog restoration scheme is also proposed. This will restore the peat bog environments which have been degraded as result of drainage and tree planting, creating significant biodiversity net gain from the project.
Mossmulloch represents a significant investment in the area for Vestas, who already have a service base employing turbine technicians in Muirkirk. The project will also provide employment opportunities within the supply chain, as well as a community fund to support local projects and initiatives. Vestas are committed to paying community benefit at the Scottish Government’s recommended rate of the equivalent of £5,000 per MW per year, equating to £180,000 per year- an anticipated total of £5.4 million over the project’s lifetime.
The application documents can be viewed and downloaded on Force 9 Energy's Mossmulloch page (https://www.force9energy.com/projects/current/mossmulloch) and can be viewed at the Avondale Community Wing and South Lanarkshire Council's planning offices.
